Rally Car Accessories
Rallying is one of the most exciting and accessible forms of motorsport for drivers of all ages and backgrounds to get involved in. Thanks to the many local clubs throughout the UK who organize events for rookies, participating is simply a matter of finding a car and equipping it with a few basic safety accessories, before taking a simple driving test which will qualify you as a rally driver! And since rallying is a form of racing which takes place on all surfaces and at a wide range of locations, you likely wont have to travel too far to find events where you can test yourself and your machine against the competition.
What is needed to get started in rallying? Well, a car, obviously. But the good news is, you don’t have to worry about a fully loaded and tuned Mitsubishi Evo at this stage – that will come later! In fact, almost any vehicle which is fit to be driven on the road will already have most of what you need to take part in your first rally event. All that is needed are a few rally car accessories, as discussed below. An alternative to buying your own car is to team up with one of the many beginners’ schools offering their services up and down the country. You can drive their professionally prepared cars, benefit from their tuition, and take your entrant’s test at their facilities.
The most basic rally car accessories you will need are not actually for your car, but for you as a driver; any competitive racing will require you to invest in a helmet, racing suit and boots, and a HANS (Head And Neck Support) device. After all, there is an element of danger at any level of motorsport. Safety measures are the most important of all rally car accessories, as not even the most driven and competitive participants would want to sacrifice their own wellbeing for success.
Once you have taken and passed a BARS (British Association of Rally Schools) Test, you will receive your new National B licence from the MSA (Motor Sports Association), the governing body which oversees the majority of racing in the UK. At this point you will be free to compete in events which are open to B licence holders.
As your experience and skill level increase, you’re going to want to invest in more rally car accessories to allow you to compete with other drivers. Raw talent can only get you so far! Spot lights and go-faster stripes may look good, but wont make you any faster; they’re more likely to slow you down by making the car heavier. A shrewd approach to rally car accessories is to identify weaknesses in your vehicle, and choose specific accessories to address those weaknesses. Down on power? Go for high performance engine components. Suffering from chassis flex? Fit strut braces and spec up your suspension. And when you finally get that Mitsubishi Evo, contact Arnside Motorsport for all the rally car accessories to make your vehicle a winner!
